Embodying Your Brand Everywhere You Go with Bridget Baker
EXPERT INTERVIEW
I met Bridget through BWB. We were both collaborators on a few of their client projects and her simplicity and love of the mojo/vibe beneath a brand totally resonated with me.
After a lovely coffee chat I realized that her story of finding simplicity through multiple avenues of life’s journey is something we HAD to have in the library. Enjoy!
Tell us about what you do through your business:
I’m help clients with brand + website design.
What's happening in your business that you're excited about?
I'm focusing more on brand consultations, and starting to include branding your home office/Zoom background into the mix also! To me, you are your brand everywhere you go, and by getting clear on that, your brand can elevate every area of your life, not just your biz.
what brings you joy personally?
Connecting with other entrepreneurs who are disrupting the status quo, living creatively, and finding their own mojo. I love walking and talking, and especially at the same time!
What is your favorite way to celebrate accomplishments?
A happy dance. Crank up some music and just move my body all by myself with no one watching. As a former professional dancer, doing it just for me is the best part!
Who has inspired you most in the world of online business?
Jason and Caroline Zook, Matt D'Avella, Alexandra Franzen, Ash Ambierge, Laura Matteson ;)
What is your favorite mistake? How was it a part of what guided you to where you are now?
My favorite mistake was trying to launch a jewelry design biz, but the failure of that led to me calling my current biz the same name, and bringing focus to what I do and why. I bring out the mojo in brands and business owners.
How have minimalism and your original skills in home organization/design supported you in your current online business?
I keep things simple. To me, the mojo is what's underneath the clutter. Letting go of what you thought your website or business needed to be, can uncover what you really WANT it to be. I apply a minimalist lens to most everything, and am also looking for simpler ways to get to the end result, and it's the lens which I create my designs and websites through.
What do you want most people to know about finding their mojo?
That they never lost it ;) That it was always right there, hiding underneath outdated ideas, and versions of yourself that no longer fit, or maybe never fit. Once you find it, it can color everything and gives you the confidence to explore, experiment, and create.
What do you suggest when one of your clients needs to grieve an identity they picked up when they discover it's not part of their mojo? What's a first step in letting go?
The first step in letting go can be to celebrate what it was and what it taught you. It was never a waste of time, it was alllll a part of the process. Also, that it may take some time, but the letting go can free them up for what they dream of doing. It can literally make space to dream (which was the name of my former Professional Organizing biz ;)
What does "having it all" mean to you?
It's beyond work/life balance. It's a life where you get to be fully, and unapologetically you, wherever you go. It's what I'm always working toward myself, letting go of what I think is holding it back, and when I let it go, I get to see that in the present moment, I already "have it all."
How do your dance and choreography experience play into your unique design process?
I create brands + websites in a similar way to how I used to approach choreography. I used to the listen to the music over and over, so I could visualize what needed to go on stage with that music. I'd often surprise myself with what I'd come up with. I'd sort of let the music move through me, and out my body, and then tailor that to the individual dancers I was working with to highlight their unique gifts and personalities. I do the same thing with my clients now. I dig deep into what's important to them, why they do what they do, and what needs to go on their website. I then uncover their brand mojo. I create the visual brand, and let that brand tell me how to design the website.
What do you wish everyone knew about how they show up online within their website?
That they don't need as much copy as they think they need. No one reads. ;) Meaning, cut to the chase, keep it simple, and less is always more. Get them to know who you are, what you do, and highlight what's unique so people can take action and work with you.
